Time Warp
How good's your sense of time? · 3 stops · under 30 seconds
We flash your stop, then it's gone. Ride the car and tap when it feels like you're there. No clocks, no counting, and the train is going to try everything to throw you off.
For entertainment only — not a sobriety or impairment test. Never drive after using cannabis.
About Time Warp
Time Warp is a free browser game about one of NYC's oldest questions: how long have I actually been on this train? A service-change poster flashes your stop time, then vanishes, and you ride a swaying subway car with no clock. The car fights dirty: the speed never settles, ghost numbers drift by, real announcements play ("stand clear of the closing doors, please"), and pizza rat, showtime dancers, and fake-closing doors all conspire to wreck your internal count. Tap when you think you've arrived and see how far from the platform you land. For entertainment only: it is not a sobriety or impairment test, and it is for adults 21+.
How to play
- Ride one sober calibration lap first. That sets your personal baseline.
- Read the poster fast: it shows your stop time in seconds, then disappears.
- Ride the car. No clocks, no counting (conductor's rules), ignore the distractions.
- Tap anywhere when it feels like your stop has arrived.
- Play 3 stops, then check the status board to see your drift vs. your baseline.
Time Warp FAQ
What is Time Warp?
Time Warp is a free browser game about time perception, dressed up as an NYC subway ride. A service-change poster flashes your stop time (like 9 seconds), then disappears. You ride the car and tap when you think that much time has passed. The closer you land to the platform, the better your score.
How does the subway ride try to trick me?
The ride is built to sabotage counting: the train speeds up and slows down irregularly, ghost numbers drift across the car, real recorded announcements play, and NYC surprises interrupt you, including pizza rat, showtime dancers, a rival train, a power flicker, and doors that fake-close.
What is the sober baseline for?
Your first round is a calibration lap that sets a personal baseline score. Later rounds are compared against your own baseline on the status board, so you are always measured against yourself, not against strangers.
Does Time Warp measure impairment?
No. Time Warp is for entertainment only. It is not a sobriety test, an impairment test, or a medical or safety tool of any kind, and it should never be used to decide whether it is safe to drive or do anything else. It is for adults 21 and over.
How long does a round take?
Under 30 seconds of riding. A round is 3 stops, each with a short target time, so you can play a full round while you wait for an actual train.
