The Plug Ladder: cannabis trivia, ten rungs at a time
Six categories, ten questions each, ordered easy to hard. Start on New York law and licensing, or go straight at terpenes, cannabis history, the science of why edibles hit differently, the munchies, or the records and films that built the culture. Every level is worth more than the last, you get three tries at each one, and if all three miss we show you the answer and move on. Nobody gets knocked out, so the question is not how far you got but how much of it you knew.
How to play
- Pick one of the six categories to start your climb.
- You get 30 seconds a question, and sound effects you can switch off.
- Level one is worth 100 points and level ten is worth 2,500, plus up to 100 for answering fast.
- Three tries a question. Each miss greys that answer out and you go again, on the same clock.
- First try pays the level in full plus the speed bonus, second pays half, third pays a quarter.
- Miss all three, or run out the clock, and we show you the answer and move on. The run never ends early.
- Clear all ten to master the category. Master all six to become a Certified Plug.

What is The Plug Ladder?
It is a free cannabis trivia game from The NYC Plug. Pick one of six categories and climb ten questions of rising difficulty: New York law and licensing, strains and terpenes, history and culture, science and effects, munchies and food, and pop culture and music.
How does the scoring work?
Each level is worth more than the last, from 100 points at level one to 2,500 at level ten, and what you earn depends on which try you got it on. First try pays the level in full plus a speed bonus of up to 100 points. Second try pays half. Third try pays a quarter. Miss all three, or run out the clock, and that level pays nothing, but you still move on to the next one. Running out of time costs you a try, exactly as a wrong answer does.
What happens if I get one wrong?
Nothing ends. You get three tries at every question: a wrong answer greys that option out and you pick again on the same 30-second clock. If all three miss, we show you the correct answer and the explanation, then move on to the next level. Nobody is knocked out, so every player finishes all ten and reads all ten explanations.
Do I need an account or a download to play?
No. The Plug Ladder runs free in your web browser on any phone or computer. Your progress, streak, and badges save on your device, and sync to your account if you are signed in.
Are the questions the same every time?
The ten questions in a category are fixed and ordered easy to hard, but the answer options are shuffled on every climb, so you cannot memorise which position the right answer sits in.
How do I become a Certified Plug?
Answer all ten questions in a category correctly in a single climb, on whichever try, to master it. Master all six categories and you earn the Certified Plug badge. Getting all ten on the first try is a flawless climb.
