The crosswalk is all the way over there. Cross here instead, lane by lane. Parked doors swing open, e-bikes are silent and fast, buses block everything, and once a round an ambulance owns the avenue. The pretzel cart is the only safe place in New York.
For entertainment only — not a sobriety or impairment test. Never drive after using cannabis.
Crosstown: the mid-block crossing game
The crosswalk is all the way over there, so Crosstown has you do the New York thing and cross a five-lane avenue right here, lane by lane. This free browser game stacks the city's full arsenal between you and the far curb: steady cabs, an M14 bus that hides everything behind it, e-bikes that are silent in both directions, parked cars whose doors swing open at the worst moment, and once a round, an ambulance that owns the whole avenue. Your only refuge is the pretzel-cart median. A run takes about 90 seconds, no download, no signup. Entertainment only, for adults 21+.
How to play
- Tap the street to step forward one lane. On a keyboard, the arrow keys work too.
- Swipe sideways (or tap the corner arrows) to slide into gaps between traffic.
- Rest on the pretzel-cart median, the only safe lane, then finish the crossing.
- Watch for the red edge glow: it means the ambulance arrives in one second.
- Bank as many crossings as you can. Three bounces, or 90 seconds, ends the run.
Crosstown FAQ
How do you play Crosstown?
Tap the street (or press the up arrow) to step forward one lane at a time, and swipe sideways (or use the left and right arrows) to slide into a gap. Cross all five lanes to the far curb, bank the crossing, and start again. Fast crossings earn a speed bonus.
What ends a Crosstown run?
Three bounces. Getting clipped by a cab, bus, e-bike, ambulance, or a swinging parked-car door bounces you back to your curb with stars and a horn, never anything worse. The third bounce prints your Crossing Report. A run also wraps on its own after 90 seconds.
Is anywhere on the avenue safe?
The pretzel-cart median. Stand next to the vendor as long as you like and plan the second half of your crossing. The vendor nods. That is the whole interaction.
What are rain slick and night mode?
Escalations for strong crossers. From your third crossing the avenue gets a rain slick, so sideways moves keep drifting after you swipe. From your fifth crossing, night falls and headlight cones become most of your light.
Does Crosstown test sobriety or impairment?
No. Crosstown is for entertainment only. It is not a sobriety, impairment, or fitness-to-drive test of any kind, and it is intended for adults 21 and over. Never drive after using cannabis, and cross real streets at the crosswalk.
